my parents didn't push me (actually they couldn't, i stopped talking to my father at around 12), but several elders in the congregation would approach me every meeting to ask when i think to finally get baptized. hated it, as i already made the decision not to get baptized until i was of age. when i was 18 i still wouldn't have made that step if it wasn't for a girl who talked me into it and got baptized at the same time.

As a JW Kid Were You Expected To Get Baptised By Your Parents/ Congregation
by Hairyhegoat inhere is a quote from a ex-jw about this subject, i myself had alot of pressure from my family to get baptised and finally gave in at 14, wish i had left them a present on the way out of the pool that floated..at the dudley assembley hall .
i can't justify my entire family (parents, sisters, aunts, uncles, grandma) and friends shunning me because i chose not to uphold a dedication i made at twelve years old.
sure it was my "choice" to get baptized.

Went to my first meeting today anonymously!
by TimothyT inhi everyone.. jack and i decided we would go to his local kingdom hall this morning.
although i have no interest anymore in being a jw, i think its still nice to have regular bible discussions, etc, which can give you something spiritual to think about each week.
i love it and i think its damn good for you.. today, jack and i walked in, a little nervous, but were greeted and welcomed like friends.

just today my wife went to her once-in-two-months meeting. my long time best friend with his wife was there. we got along really well, and i thought both of them would still be good friends of mine. well, he still is i guess, but her... she told my wife that she can't visit us, because of me. and i'm not even disfellowshipped or something. but treatet the same non the less. i used to think she was really nice. and she owes me loads of favours...
just a little reminder. that's those nice people you are talking about. they are nice as long as you are their kind.

@Charliko, you are mostly right, but i wonder if you already made the experience of what it's like when they are coming after you... nice people turn bad and ugly really fast when it comes to certain beliefs.

not that i care, but they don't encourage bible studies, they encourage studying their "based on the bible" literature.
i wouldn't stand 5 minutes sitting there. if you still hold some of their beliefs, there are probably some more tolerant churches out there that give you the same warm, fuzzy feeling except without the shunning part.

Wouldn't the predators on the ark have eaten everything by the time the 40 days was over?
by highdose inlet say noah did manage to get all the species into the ark... about half of them would have been predators and the other half natural prey.. are we going to belive that they went without eating for 40 days and nights?
or the ridiculous theory as the wt would have it that noah fed them nice tasty bales of straw which they happily munched on?.
and even if one of these two exhuses were true, when the animals were let out of the ark into a world now deverstated by a flood, then wouldn't they have continued eating eachother???

noah only took frozen eggs with him (back then lions and pandas used to lay eggs too). he evidently also built a second ark for all the plants, as after a year of water most of the plants on earth were dead and gone.

NAME ONE USEFUL THING done by Russell, Rutherford, F.Franz

depends what you perceive as useful. they buildt and kept running an international publishing company, gave jobs to many people who couldn't go to college and provided weekly meeting arrangements for manic depressed low lives. that's more than what i have done so far...

Another question, if I may...
by AGuest inand may you all have peace!
this is another general question for the board and i ask your indulgence because i am trying to understand how others think.
if there truly is no god/god... what is wrong with the existence of religion?

hi slave of christ (peace to you and all that).
i take your point. there really isn't much difference in organized religion, parts of the pharmaceutical industry and schemes like amway, herbalife, monavie etc.
i was involved in religion, so that's what i know most about. i wasn't involved in amway. i know a little about those schemes, as i know people who are/were involved. i never had a problem with pharmaceutics. i did smoke some weed, just to try it, but i don't have any bad experiences with it. other people do, so they might focus more on that problem than on religion. some don't have any problem with religion at all. that's alright. as long as noone gets hurt...
what we do know though is, that some religions, drugs, schemes are more dangerous than others. i think it could be empirically proven that a zen buddhist is less likely to blow people up than a radical mudjaheddin. someone smoking weed now and then is less likely to get into serious health problems than someone shooting heroine. someone hosting tupperware parties will not be as dependent on that company as someone who lives on amway products.

Why I Shouldn't Believe in the Resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth
by XJW4EVR inwhen i was a jw, the key issue that caused me to doubt the wt was the trinity.
the wtb&ts's blatent misquotations and misrepresentations of religious scholarship to fit their anti-trinitarian presuppositions are horrid and inexcusable.
that issue, however, was not the issue that caused me to become a christian.

how disappointing. and i thought you'd contribute to the thread you started and come along with some evidence for your faith.
i guess this was too much to ask for.
